Everyone remembers learning to drive and the name of their instructor. Driving is a skill for life and provides independence and freedom. Successful driving instructors recognise the need to understand driver education and to have excellent motivational, teaching abilities and driving skills to be an expert in their field.

Our training is delivered through a mixture of blended learning and one to one in car tuition. All of our instructors have been recognised for their professionalism and are also registered as an ORDIT Trainer. We are committed to offering dedicated support, expert advice and professional guidance throughout your training.

Road Map to Success

Stage 1: Course Enrolment

On successful registration of course enrolment you will also be required to register with the DVSA website (details provided), in order to successfully complete the required DBS Check, allowing registration to become an Approved Driving Instructor. On successful completion an individual Personal Reference Number (PRN) will be issued, allowing the booking of the required DVSA examinations to be processed.

Our experienced Office Team will support you through this application process, and all the required learning materials and dedicated access to our online learning system will be provided.

Stage 2: Approved Driving Instructor - DVSA Part 1 (Theory)

The ADI Part 1 comprises of two assessments which requires a pass in both areas to be successful:

Theory: The first assessment checks your knowledge of the Highway Code, general road safety, driving techniques, basic first aid and the theory of instructing a pupil. To be successful a minimum score of 85%; course delegates have 90-minutes in which to complete the assessment.

Hazard Perception: The second assessment tests your ability in Hazard Perception utilising 14 video clips. One of the video clips (at random) will contain two hazards. To be successful a minimum score of 57 out of 75 is required.

Stage 3: Approved Driving Instructor - DVSA Part 2 (Practical Ability)

The ADI Part 2 is an Advanced Practical Driving Test. During this process you are required to demonstrate a professional level of driving ability, under formal assessment of a DVSA Examiner. The test will last for approximately 60-minutes.

In order to ensure you are appropriately prepared for the assessment, you will complete a minimum of 10-hours of practical driving experience, on a one-to-one basis with your dedicated trainer. However, it’s not uncommon for personnel to take approximately 20-hours of training prior to the assessment. Should you require any additional training, then this can be arranged at an additional charge per lesson.

Stage 4: Approved Driving Instructor - DVSA Part 3 (Instructional Ability)

The ADI Part 3 provides the necessary training and skills, to enable effective instruction to personnel of all ages and abilities in how to drive a vehicle. This will include how to plan, deliver and provide client centred learning inclusive of risk management and assessment processes. You will be required to complete a driving lesson under formal assessment of a DVSA Examiner. The test will last for approximately 60-minutes utilising a live student under tuition.

In order to ensure you are appropriately prepared, the DVSA has stipulated that personnel must complete a minimum of 40-hours of tuition, on a one-to-one basis with your dedicated trainer. During this period, you will be taught all the necessary skills for successful achievement. Only after successful completion of the required hours, may personnel be eligible to sit the formal assessment.

Personnel may decide to not sit the Part 3 Test immediately, and opt to cement their learning further by gaining greater knowledge and experience with learner drivers. This is achieved by selecting the DVSA Approved Trainee Licence Scheme. PSB for further information regarding this option.

DVSA Trainee Licence

After successfully completing the 40 hours of instruction during the ADI Part 3 element of the course, why not support your training further by making use of the the DVSA Approved Trainee Licence Scheme, allowing an income to be generated immediately.

This allows individuals to gain a greater knowledge and understanding of working with leaner drivers, whilst also increasing your exposure to a wider range of lesson subjects.
